World Series Final Game Attracts 51M Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The thrilling extended contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a total 51M viewers in the United States, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB announced this marks the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

The Saturday epic contest averaged 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a 16% increase over the last finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed fourth, the fourth game was 7th, the fifth game was 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English program in Canada after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million viewers. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – averaged 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series drew over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US average was 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew over 8 million watchers, an 8% increase compared to last year and Fox’s best postseason ratings after 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 nations and regions by 44 media partners in 16 different languages.
